Why Adaptable AI Matters in Construction

Recent government restrictions on advanced AI models made one thing clear: the frontier model you depend on can get locked down with little warning. National security, regulation, whatever the reason.

We saw this coming years ago. That shaped how we think about building Documint PM: around flexibility and data ownership.

The principle is simple. Your schedule and estimate are the fixed baselines. The math should live in a deterministic engine, not the model. The AI's job is language and explanation, not calculating.

A model shouldn't be touching your numbers.

Why that matters to a contractor: a frontier model today where it helps, local and private down the road as your own data matures. Less vendor lock-in. Your shop's knowledge should stay yours, not training someone else's model. You keep your IP in house, not to be sold to a competitor who has a relationship with the frontier model's board member.

The contractors who own their intelligence and stay adaptable will be ahead as the landscape shifts.

MEP operators, how are you thinking about data ownership and model flexibility?
